Sometimes when you're lazy, it's ok - good things still happen.
Last week I got up a bit later than usual and was feeling somewhat droopy. Rising late, I felt a bit like a bum. I got my breakfast together, a fried egg, a slice of warmed bread and half a grapefruit. After bringing my meal to the kitchen table I realized there was a large green and yellow squash residing on my usual seat. So, feeling lazy and not wishing to move the squash to its rightful spot in the pantry, I sat in a different seat. Unlike my "usual" seat, which puts my back to the window, this position allowed me to see into our backyard.
Soon my mom came into the kitchen and we began talking. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted movement behind the hot-tub and against the white fence.
Probably a squirrel, I think to myself.
My mom and I kept talking.
That thing is jumping in the leaves - its a bird. Probably a crow.
My mom and I keep talking.
It's not a crow. What is it??
At this point the creature jumping and diving in the fallen leaves has distracted me.
"Hey mom. What kind of bird is that?" I interrupt her, now fully focused on a bird of some sort.
"It's a hawk!" She exclaims looking out at it.
While I ate my breakfast, this hawk ate his (or hers?).
