Horses... and Jesus

What else should I talk about on here when I haven't written on here in forever?

Of course - Horses and Jesus!

I have learned so much in the past six equine-massage clinics and can't believe there are only two more sessions! This past Tuesday Jerrica and I worked on Becky. I knew I was doing a good job when I looked at Becky's head and she was practically asleep, resting her nose - hammock style - on the rope to which she was tethered. Wish I had my camera - she looked so peaceful.  :-) I have to admit the hamstring release was an awkward step. Shoving my hand into her muscles just below her point of buttocks under her tail, and sliding it down to the hock was an experience. :-)

This may sound like a total left turn, but I promise there is a connection!  Last month I had the opportunity to attend a dinner at which Kim Meeder, the author of Hope Rising, was the main speaker. Her books are amazing, and if you haven't read them - do it! I came away from the dinner encouraged, blessed, and inspired. If there was one thing I took away from the dinner, it was: what can you give? God will use whatever you choose to give. What can we give one another? What God can't use is what we don't give. If we give him nothing, we can expect nothing.

Taking that back to Becky - it felt good to know that what I was doing, what I was giving, made another being happy. Some might call it good karma, but I would disagree. I think we were meant to give to one another. As George Elliot said, "What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult to each other." It was one of those moments when an idea becomes very clear. What I was doing was not much. I am inexperienced, but willing. Horses, unlike people, are very honest. If the small gift that I was giving Becky made her happy, then what about the things I do well? What about my talents and passions?

Btw - Emmet and Elliot have been sold to the Omaha Mounted-Police Unit and leave tomorrow! It's exciting! They're graduating from Asbury! That is an answer to prayer. We need to sell them for the Police Mounts Program to be viable.
